[-- A Gentle Sadness This Christmas.]
In mid-December, my son left for London on a working holiday.
He had graduated from a university in London and had hoped to find a job in London after graduation, but his hopes were not fulfilled and he returned to Japan. He then prepared to go to the UK while working in Japan, but this was also unlucky and he was unable to go due to the Corona disaster.
I have finally been able to come to the UK.
He feels comfortable in the UK. This time he has come to the UK with a view to emigrating beyond that,
It will be a period of preparation for this.
While I would like to fully support what he wants to do,
As a parent, I still feel sad that my only son is going abroad...
I didn't stay at home all the time because my university was in London and I was already living independently,
It doesn't change our lives in any significant way,
Considering the physical distance, you can't deny that it seems far away.
Nowadays, you can make free international and video calls.
I think the distance is much shorter than it used to be, though.
That's why this Christmas.
Christmas is somewhat lonely.
I'm sure they'll get used to it in time, but...
