My favorite bedding is made of white linen.
I use linen sheets and pillowcases all year round, both in summer and winter.

Muji used to sell linen pillowcases,
For the past few years, I haven't seen it around, perhaps due to bad timing or because it's been discontinued.
It was good because it was reasonably priced.

The pillowcase I was using was getting worn out.
It's been quite a while since I decided to replace it.

I searched online and elsewhere, but
I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Then let's make it!
It's just a matter of sewing in a straight line.

When I decided to go look for fabric,
I found the fabric that was exactly what I had in mind.
The rough texture of linen.
Yet it has a smooth, glossy finish.
The shopkeeper said, "This fabric is really great!"
You could make something really lovely like a blouse.
I made two or three myself!
He said, "No, I'm not making clothes, I'm making pillowcases..."
I simply smiled and replied, "That would be absolutely wonderful."


My sewing machine has been getting a lot of use lately.
I bought it when my son started kindergarten.
It's about 30 years old now,
Still going strong.
It doesn't have any complex features.
It can only do straight stitching and zigzag stitching.
Bags for my son to use at school,
My own simple skirt,
Looking back, I've sewn all sorts of things.
I don't always take it out and use it, but
It is one of the essential tools that are indispensable in our daily lives.
I want you to stay with me for a while longer.

The pillowcase has neither a zipper nor buttons.
It's just a simple bag-shaped object that's been sewn together.
I thought I could just finish the edges of the seam allowance with a zigzag stitch, but
Because linen frays easily, I used a French seam.
It took a little extra effort,
The finished product turned out much neater than I expected, so using a French seam was definitely the right choice.

It finally became my favorite pillowcase.
That sound and feel when you put a pillow into a new cover.
I'm sure I'll sleep well.
