Obon

My son is back in Japan for a short visit from London.
The three of us went to visit the family grave together.

I think many people in Tokyo observe the Obon festival in July.
In our family, since my in-laws' death anniversary is in July,
I used to do both the Obon festival and visit the family grave in July.

This year, my husband and I went to visit the family grave in July,
Since my son has just come home, I thought I'd give it another go.

In areas where cemeteries are located, the Obon festival is celebrated in August.
This might be our family's first time visiting the family grave during the Obon season.

There were already flowers placed on some of the graves.
There was also a family that appeared to be three generations, with young children.
What a beautiful view.

Perhaps it's because of my age, but lately I've been spending more time with my hands clasped together in prayer.

The decorations, welcoming fires, and farewell fires that were popular during the Obon festival in the past.
Before I knew it, I had stopped doing it altogether.

I want to properly welcome them next year.
